People ask me this all the time. And here is my answer.
We live in the most technologically advanced era in human history, and yet people are not getting happier. Wars haven't stopped. Anxiety, burnout, and loneliness are at record highs. We keep reaching for more. More money, more stimulation, more distraction. Yet it's still not enough.
Something is clearly wrong. And I felt it in my own life.
I came to the U.S. in 2008, got my PhD at the University of Michigan, and built a career at Meta and Google. From the outside, everything looked fine. But on the inside, I was exhausted and lost. My insomnia got so bad I couldn't sleep even with seven pills a night. I hit a wall, the kind that makes you question everything.
That's when I found meditation. And then my teacher, and a community of people genuinely committed to waking up.
What happened next I still can't fully put into words. My insomnia disappeared. I became vegan, lost 40 lbs without trying. But more than any of that, I changed. The way I work, the way I listen, the way I show up for people I love. I found something I didn't even know I was looking for.
I found the reason why all our progress hasn't made us happier. It is because we've been looking in the wrong direction, outward instead of inward.
Inward doesn't mean retreating to a monastery. It means having the courage to actually look within, to know yourself, your body, your emotions and your thoughts. Once you do that, you will find the secret treasure — that perfect innate nature of yourself. And that awareness has always been with us.
Starlia exists to help us realize that perfection. The crystal, the AI ring, the community, they're not the point but gentle reminders. The point is you, returning to who you truly are.
Everyone is innately perfect.
Awareness is the path back.
We're just getting started, and I'm so glad you're here.
With love,
Li
